Spent 5 days in Uhwarrie National Forest on the game lands hunting with some friends.   I think it was more of a camping trip for me than it was a hunting trip…LOL.  It was great to be with friends and have some time in the woods to reflect.  The weather went from cold to warm back to cold!!  The wind picked up and the leaves hitting the tent almost sounded like rain.  It was a fabulous 5 days!!

Hurricane Florence has turned slightly and expected to move south of us. That is good news and bad news…..Good news because we will not get the brunt of the storm; however, we will be getting more rain since we are on the northerly side.
We are prepared as best as we can be….hunkering down and waiting the storm out. As long as my family and my property is safe, I will be running calls with the fire department to assist others that might not be as fortunate.

Have you ever heard of the East Coast Greenway?  The East Coast Greenway connects 15 states, 450 cities and towns, and 3,000 miles of people-powered trails from Maine to Florida —the country’s longest biking and walking route.

On its way through central and eastern North Carolina, the East Coast Greenway showcases the state’s natural features and cultural diversity. From rolling hills of pine, oak, and hickory forests to farmlands, thriving cities, cypress swamps, and coastal beaches, travelers will experience much of the Tar Heel State’s best.

The current spine route passes through the Research Triangle cities of Durham and Raleigh on extensive greenway trails, then touches the Sandhills and enters Fayetteville. It runs across the coastal plain along the Cape Fear River and explores the port city of Wilmington.

In addition to this main route, the Historic Coastal Route extends south from Virginia on the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail and follows the North Carolina coast more closely, linking Greenville and Jacksonville before heading into Wilmington to join the spine route.

Maybe a couple of fire calls or trees down? National Weather issued a storm warning for our area.

On the way home my pager went off for a small outside fire, that was in between work and home.  So I headed that way

to see if I can offer any assistance.  The fire was confined to an area about 200’x100′, and about 600 gallons of water was used.  The only loss of property was an small, unused well pump house.  It appears the fire was started from the remnants of a burn barrel used the previous day.

Saturday, we were in Hillsborough for the Art in the Heart of Hillsborough.  It was our first outdoor art/craft festival, so it was a good learning experience.  We parked the camper at Jordan Lake (Crosswinds Recreational Area) since both places were about 30 minutes from there, yet over an hour and a half from the house.  We set up early Saturday and spent the day talking to people and trying to sell!!

Although we did not sell as much as we would have liked, we did learn a lot about getting ready for festivals…..and I hope that we can do some more and I really enjoyed the camping part!!!
