- I-40 through the NC/TN gorge is still operating with reduced capacity.
- Even when open, it can experience significant delays and backups.
- For a long-distance transit mission, reliability is more important than shaving a few mile
- Decided that lodging will probably be a daily decision depending on how the trip is going, how tired I get, and if I am ready to stop before or after expected stopping point.
The next major planning milestone is to flesh out the Route Intelligence section for the Virginia route, including fuel stops, meal stops, rest areas, and contingency points.
